Success story

We here at Home Staging Pros love to think back and reminisce on some of our earlier work and how our style has evolved to fit the current trends. Our focus was, and still is, to provide trendy design to help sellers’ house’s sell quickly and we have accumulated a lot of success stories. Our favorite is a house that had been on the market for 45 days (a lifetime for the seller) with no offers. There was nothing wrong with the house, it was in a nice neighborhood and was in good condition, but buyers seemed unable to notice the house’s potential. After we staged the house, it sold one week later with multiple offers.

Something we have observed over the 11 years we have been in business is a brand-new house that is in a prime location with top-of-the-line appliances, high ceilings, large garage, and an above average sized yard, might not sell. This exact scenario is not super common but every now and then the ‘perfect’ house slips through the cracks. It can be hard to see an empty house’s possibilities. This is where we come in, we can walk in a house and visualize how it could be and then our staging helps the buyer see the potential as well.

Giving Mid Century Modern Mass Appeal

Mid century modern is still trending strong for buyers as we enter 2017.  But, how do you make it affordable (for staging) and attractive to all potential buyers?

First, let's explore budget considerations.  We find many stylish mcm furniture pieces at discounted prices on craigslist.  Just type in key words such as mid century modern, mcm and names of mcm old and new furniture designers, manufacturers and merchants.  Some of our favorite key words are Saarinen, Bertoia, Knoll, West Elm, Room and Board and Ikea.

Next, go shopping!  Check out the high end mid century modern style furniture stores in your area to get an idea of what they are displaying.  Now go to HomeGoods, Marshalls, TJMaxx or other discounted home furnishing stores and find similar items at a steep discount!

Finally, draw in all buyers with a softening of the lines of the mcm pieces by adding more transitional furnishings, accessories and artwork.  For example, mid century modern pillows are typically few and feature graphic prints.  However, with lavish amounts of pillows with a larger variety of prints all buyers' attentions will be captured.  Adding clean lined furniture, such as the slipper chair in the photo below, that mixes well with the other mcm, engages buyers with a taste for traditional.  Don't forget to add the iconic bar cart, even if for no other reason than the sheer pleasure of outfitting it with all of the stylish bottles, glassware and gadgets available today!
